With a record entry of 32 Irish entries in the Nordic Junior Open which took place in Malmo there was some notable success gained. There was 4 semi finalists and 3 finalists. Hannah Craig came 3rd in the Under 17’s beating Emma Fitzsimmons from Scotland 3-0.

In the Under 13’s final Denis Gilevskiy won a dramatic match vs Luis Grubel from Germany, 3-2. Denis was 2-0 down and looked to be gone but showing great maturity he stormed back to take the title. Jack O’Flynn lost the Under 11’s final, 3-1, having beaten a tough Egyptian in the semi final earlier in the day, draining his energy reserves.
Conor Moran had a super battle in the Under 15’s vs Europe No. 1 Victor Byrtus from Czech. Conor had 3 match balls but couldn’t convert them to lose 3-2. Just the bounce of a ball in it.21884473309_9b6d24a978_z

Tecnifibre Mount Pleasant JMO 2015MP TSHIRT

September 19/20th

This is a mixed open which means that players will be grouped based on ability NOT age or gender. It has proved to be a great success. Here is the comment of one parent

‘My son had four excellent games in which he won two and lost two. He was never trashed nor did he trash anyone. In fact throughout the tournament and over the full weekend most games I saw were competitive.  Indeed I was sorry I did not bring my 9 year old daughter because I feel she would have been well able for the D section which was played among boys and girls of a young age and starting off in squash. As a parent I would like to convey how supportive I am of this type of tournament. ‘

Winner 2015

Anthony McGrath, President Mount Pleasant LTC, Scott Gillanders and Rhonda Moran, Junior Secretary Irish Squash

So a great weekend of competitive but enjoyable sport. FUN is what it should be about for children (as well as the adults)

Scott Gillanders won the A section beating Conor Moran in a very close match. See him pictured receiving his trophy.
