The 2013 Junior Irish Interprovincials were played in Mt Pleasant, Dublin Saturday and Sunday 6th/7th April. 107 juniors from all over Ireland took part in this team event proudly wearing their provinces jersey. Leinster entered 7 teams, Ulster 6 teams, Munster 5 teams and Connacht 2 teams.
Saturday morning the girls u/13 Ulster v Leinster kicked off the tournament but Ellie McVeigh and the Ulster team proved too strong for Leinster with a 3/2 win. Ulster went on to beat Munster and took the trophy home. The boys u/13 victory was claimed by Leinster who beat Munster and Ulster. The Leinster boys u/15 also won with a 5/0 win over Munster and Ulster. Sean Dineen (Leinster) and Barry Lynch (Munster) had a super game with Sean winning 3/2. Leinster won the girls U/15 title and also took the title for the boys U/17 with a great match from David Ryan and Michael Craig 3/1. Connacht won the girls u/17 with a great win over Leinster and Munster. The final match of the weekend was the mixed u/19. Leinster and Ulster battled it out on court with Leinster proving too strong and won the title 5/0.
Ryan Luther was awarded the Laura Thorton “Fair Play Award” for his performances on and off the court throughout the year. Well done Ryan.
Congratulations to all our players. We had an excellent weekend of squash and it is lovely to see the squash season end with a team event. Many thanks to all the players, parents, coaches, supporters and junior administrators who helped make this weekend a great success.
